Synthetic landscape (2021-24)

Fluid recordings; 2021-24

60x150cm

Stupid, acrylic on wooden board

-

A series of process paintings on variable panels. These panels present a landscape painting from an aerial/satellite perspective.

Every time a new detail appears in one painting, the whole series is painted over with a new layer. This procedure produces effects similar to the processes of optical device calibration, rendering, or landscape erosion.

The Synthetic landscape series is a long-term project, an effort to reevaluate the view of the landscape... It is already a known fact that our perception of the landscape is not an individual perspective of an individual, but is based in a number of technological-social apparatuses as a synthesis of perceptions... Synthetic Landscape is an effort to project this synthesis of views into landscape painting.

Image created using the Malbot painting controller. It is one of the paintings inspired by the view of the sky in the transition between evening and night, when the human eye has a hard time adjusting to changes in color and depth of space. It is a strange moment when the observer is unsure of what he really sees in the sky. I try to find such a moment of indeterminacy of perspective in various situations. It is fascinating to me, both because it reveals the nature of what is seen and then because it is one of the basic motifs of the language of painting.
